Couples of the Bible: A One-Year Devotional Study to Draw You Closer to God and Each Other by Robert and Bobbie Wolgemuth

This is a devotional for couples that will last an entire year. Each week you read one chapter and focus on a couple in the Bible. The authors, Robert and Bobbie Wolgemuth, bring the couples to life using their creative writing abilities.

Each chapter is broken down into five days and different areas of the couples life are highlighted. The devotional stays consistent each week. Although the characters may be different for that week, the format is the same for that particular day. The study ends each week with practical advice on how you can apply what you learned to your relationship as a married couple.

It was a wonderful experience talking through the daily questions. It was interesting thinking about the couples in a different light than ever before. It allowed us to dive deeper into God’s Word and to learn so much about these couples.

I found this devotional to be a wonderful opportunity to spend time with my husband in prayer and exploring the Word of God. If you want to draw closer together as a couple and God, this is a good choice for you.

This also would make an excellent gift for a newly married couple to help them spend quality time with their spouse and to God. I wish that we had received something like this when we were starting our life as a married couple.

Angels in the Fire by Dann Stadler

Angels in the Fire had me hooked from the moment I read the first page. Before I knew it, the afternoon was over, and I had finished the book. Make sure that you have a box of tissues, because it definitely will bring tears to your eyes. If you have any doubts about the miracles of God, this book definitely will cause you to reevaluate them.

This book is a true story about Dann and Tracey Stadler who literally went through the fire. This couple survived a horrible crash caused by a drunk driver. As their story unfolds, it is evident that they survived the wreck only through the miraculous intervention of God. Their unwavering faith in God during their heartbreaking recovery was truly incredible. Even through their long, grueling, and painful recovery process, their faith in God continued to grow and stand firm.

I cannot imagine anyone reading this book and not being touched by this riveting story. The books ends with this comment which I loved, “I do hope readers find inspiration from our story, gain insight into their own struggles and know the trails of life are but fleeting to God's abiding love."

Beyond Heaven's Door by Max Lucado

This book is a 30-day devotional that always begins with a scripture verse. The daily reading is relatively short. However, at the end of each daily devotional, there is a time for you to reflect on your life. The author, Max Lucado helps direct your thoughts with questions that will help you to dig deep within yourself.

Max Lucado is a wonderful writer and his writing quickly captured my attention. I knew that this was going to be a very thought provoking devotional before I even finished reading the introduction to the book. His words seemed to flow from the pages as I read the introduction. I was totally mesmerized.

As I progressed daily through this devotional, I was definitely challenged I lingered for days about having a heart more like Jesus.  Wouldn't you love to have a heart more like Jesus?  This was just one of the reflections that I spend hours pondering.

This book reminds you that this world is not our final destination.  As a believer in Christ, our next adventure will be face to face with Jesus.  It is a wonderful book that will make you look forward to what is to come.

My only criticism of the book was the different Bible translations that were used throughout the book.  However, I would definitely recommend this book to someone that is looking to grow in their walk with the Lord.
